Do you need new Brake Pads too often?

The most common service item of all is actually brake pads. It’s actually somewhat of a contentious issue, as many people think that they last forever, that is, until you drive in for a service and find that they need replaced yet again.  While the cost of replacing budget brakes pads isn’t expensive, it’s most certainly an annoyance when you find yourself having to change them two or even three times a year!

Brake pads today come in all sorts. Depending on the car you drive, you might have ceramic, metallic, organic (Kevlar) or even semi-metallic pads. If you’re coming in for a service and it seems like only yesterday that you had to get them changed, then it’s time to speak to a mechanic and consider some alternatives.

One of the biggest reasons why you need new brake pads prematurely is that you use ceramic or organic brake pads, and in some cases they tend to last not quite as long as the rest. The truth is if you want long lasting brake pads, then often you can expect to pay more. A cheap alternative (over the years) is to change out your brakes from the type that’s wearing quickly to a more hardwearing alternative such as semi-ceramic pads which are durable and perform well.

Next time you get your brakes serviced, speak with your mechanic and find out just how much more it costs to change over to a more long lasting material. It’s not that much more expensive, and you might find that over a few years – it really does pay for its self.
